BARACK OBAMA: WINS RE-ELECTION

Four years ago, Barack Obama made history by being elected as the nation's first African-American president. Last night, he made history in a different way. Not only is he the first black man to be elected to the White House twice, he confounded experts who suggested that his effort for a second term was doomed by the failing economy. He turned back a dogged effort by Republican challenger Mitt Romney to win the general election. Obama racked up enough votes to get not just the required 270 electoral votes, but passed the 300-vote mark. The president won nearly all of the so-called ``battleground'' states, including Virginia, Ohio, Colorado and Pennsylvania _ as well as capturing states like Wisconsin, home of the GOP vice presidential candidate, Paul Ryan.
