The Athena Project serves women who have experienced domestic violence and are troubled by stress after the violence ends. It is a free service available to all members of the community, offered by the Psychology Department of the University of Memphis.
Victims of domestic violence may experience such symptoms of stress as nightmares, trouble concentrating, avoidance of situations that remind them of the abuse, feeling nervous and ‘jumpy,’ and other related emotional problems.
Participants will receive free evaluation, and possible treatment designed to help alleviate signs and symptoms of post-trauma stress. For more information call Dr. Gayle Beck at 901-678-3973.

The Shelby County Relative Caregiver Program is looking to assist families who are caring for their relative’s children. Located at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, the Shelby County Relative Caregiver Program offers supportive services, information and referral services, as well as caregiver support groups and activities for children. This program is funded under an agreement with the Department of Children’s Services. The Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County has established a way for the Memphis community to donate cans as a way of supporting the organization. "Cans for Cash" is a program that encourages people to bring their aluminum cans to the Humane Society, located at 2238 Central, and donate them to help the Humane Society continue their life-saving activities which are accomplished without any tax-dollar funding.
